Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
