Stateside actor Pat Finn, who appeared in beloved programs like "Friends", Seinfeld and The Middle, has succumbed aged 60.

The skilled improv artist succumbed at his home in Los Angeles, California this Monday after undergoing cancer treatment since 2022, according to news outlets.

"Pat Finn saw everyone as a friend - just potential friends he had yet to meet," his family shared in a announcement.

They noted that he had "experienced life to the fullest - with happiness and energy".

A Prolific Television Career

His debut TV appearance was on a show starring George Wendt in 1995, where he played the brother of the main character.

He was also seen in a repeating character on Murphy Brown in the latter half of the 1990s.

He played the part of Joe Mayo in the show Seinfeld in the late 90s, portraying a host known to delegate burdensome jobs to his guests.

During the late 1990s and early 2000s, he had guest spots on a variety of well-known programs, including:

  • "King of Queens"
  • "Friends"
  • That '70s Show
  • House, M.D.

Finn was perhaps best known for his portrayal of Bill Norwood in The Middle, appearing throughout eight series from 2011 to 2018.

His cinematic roles encompass It's Complicated and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups (2012).

A Life in Improv

Outside of his television work, Finn was an improv performer and worked as a teacher at the Colorado university, where he was a professor.

He was a member of a comedy group of six called "Beer Shark Mice".

"Finn taught, supported, and inspired countless students throughout the years and it would be difficult to find someone who has anything negative to say about him," his relatives stated.

In a tribute, fellow actor Richard Kind noted there was "not a more kind, gentle, or funny, grounded individual you could encounter".

"Perpetually optimistic, helping you be funnier and better. An excellent dad and person," he posted publicly.

Finn is survived by his wife Donna, his three kids, and his family.
