Manchester United Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.
Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
