Jon Ruben pleaded guilty to 17 charges at the judicial center on Friday

An individual who laced sweets with sedative and gave them to minors at a youth camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two children aged nine and ten years old.

The defendant was detained after eight children and an older person became sick at the facility in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the judicial center on recently.

Yet, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was concerning a young boy.

Ruben was kept in jail prior to a further hearing on late November.

'Treat game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer program which he ran.

The defendant conducted a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor said, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She said Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had suspicions in July 2025.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "In the summer" his stepson had worries about what was going on, for good reason.

"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC said materials including infant oil, ointment and medical needles were discovered, and his family member alerted the law enforcement about his concerns.

She said the defendant went on to play the "candy game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that stage," she continued.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was examining the police response of the situation.

The legal representative said the children were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the stepson called the law enforcement again.

She said the defendant then conducted the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
