Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from his teammate by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, trailing 36 points Norris, finished in 17th place as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he rotated at corner four during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner approaching the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
